We all know how great a seasonal color analysis is for helping you clean up your wardrobe and make clothes shopping sooo much easier! I wanted to take it one step further by helping you apply your seasonal color palette to your wedding flower color palette and floral recipe! This post is all about color theory for wedding flowers. Already know which season you are? Perfect! Go ahead and scroll down to find recommendations for your season! If not, there are so many great free resources out there to help you figure it out, or pop over to Etsy to find an expert who can help you!
Before we jump in I just want to note a few things for you! Your wedding day attire and decorations in your seasonal color palette will bring out your best on your wedding day! The color palettes I used to create the seasonal flower board examples are pulled from each of the corresponding seasonal color palettes, but I only used 4 colors. There are many more options, but I leaned on my floral design experience and knowledge to put together a color palette that could easily translate into florals. This means you won't see much aqua green or navy blue as Mother Nature doesn't abundantly provide blooms in those colors. If you would like to work with me to create a seasonal color flower recipe for your wedding and customized quote based on your personal color palette favorites I would love to hear from you! You can get in touch with me by filling out my contact form. Last thing, these examples are based on seasonal color analysis color palettes, not the actual seasons of the year. So, the flowers pictured for the Bright Spring flower board may picture flowers that are not available in the springtime. Does that make sense? Once you have your wedding date picked out you can use these board examples to find the same or similar flowers that will be seasonally available for your big day! Okay let's do this! First one up is Bright Spring! Bright Spring Energetic, bright and clear colors that sparkle! For flowers, I have paired together brighter purples, pinks and peaches with a touch of blush, all from the color palette for Bright Springs! There are so many great floral options in these shades and they combine for a bright and fun flower vibe while still being so classic! For your wedding attire, this season looks great in ivory, coconut or champagne. If you want to opt for some color a light peach would be a lovely shade for a wedding dress. Grooms are going to look great in any of the shades of grey this palette offers, just be sure to pair it with a creamier white shirt rather than a stark blue-white.
True Spring
Think sunshine! Joyful colors that are juicy and full of life. A wedding flower color palette for True Spring can be very vibrant, even if you want to avoid the more obvious tropical colors! Pair this with a greenish grey suit and a cream or shell wedding dress! If you want something more unique a wedding dress with a touch of yellow or peach would be amazing!
Light Spring
Soft, delicate and airy! So many great options options for flower recipes, but I opted to put together some soft pinks and peaches, but you could also explore a monochromatic bouquet in shades of purple.
A wedding dress in eggshell or meringue is going to be fantastic! Also another season where soft peaches would look great too if you want some color to the dress. Grooms will look great in warm grey or light taupes.
Light Summer
Fresh colors with an airy vibe. The flower recipe for this season reminds me of pink lemonade!
Light grey or blue for suits is going to pair great with this flower recipe! Wedding dresses in one of the whites for this seasonal color palette, like milk or white rice is going to be gorgeous. For colorful options explore soft pinks, blues or yellows.
True Summer
Cool shades with a calm and refreshing vibe! Channeled my inner Monet to put together a flower board of cool blues and purples.
A light blue-grey suit with a softer white shirt is going to look amazing with this flower recipe. For a wedding dress explore soft pearl whites, pale neutral, lavender or pink shades.
Soft Summer
Subtle and ethereal colors. I opted to include some of the cooler shades from the color palette in this flower board, but you could also add some warmth by brining flowers with slightly warmer tones.
If you are feeling adventurous a plum suit would be so fun for wedding attire! A grey or navy suit with an off-white shirt is going to be amazing though if you want to stick with more traditional suits. Wedding dresses in a dusty pink, blue or lavender would be stunning or keep it simple with a soft white!
Soft Autumn
Organic, gentle colors! Adding lighter shades of warm-toned greenery and filler flowers to your flower recipe is going to bring the perfect amount of warmth while keeping the overall vibe very soft.
This recipe is going to look gorgeous with a hunter green suit paired with a bone colored shirt and a warm off-white wedding dress! If you want a more colorful option try an antique peach!
True Autumn
Think sunsets! All the amber colored hues paired with rich and earthy shades of fall time! I kept the flower recipe a bit on the brighter side of the spectrum but still really warm. So many shades of green to explore though to either brighten or warm this recipe further!
Lots of fun suit color options for this season, but I would recommend exploring a deep berry or beige. A antique cream wedding dress would look great!
Dark Autumn
Rich and deep! This flower recipe has me feeling so ready for a slice of pumpkin pie! It's hard to not be obsessed with fall time colors as a florist. So many great shades of red and orange to play with!
This season is one where a traditional black suit is going to going to look fantastic, but opt for a warmer neutral for the shirt, like beige. But if it were me, I would go with a forest green, so gorgeous! Same is going to go for the wedding dress, a warmer neutral like beige or an antiqued ivory.
Dark Winter
Lots of deep and dramatic shades! For flowers you are doing to want to explore the deeper purple and red shades of roses, ranunculus and scabiosa. Agonis would be the perfect foliage!
Go for charcoal or black suits! Navy or wine if you really want color. For wedding dresses get adventurous and go with a non-white option in one of your shades of red or purple. But if you have just always dreamed of a traditional gown then opt for white!
True Winter
Sharp and vivid! For this flower board I opted for the brighter shades of blue and purple, but there are also some great shades of yellow in this palette if you are getting married in the springtime and want more springtime colors. I had to include a second option using all the amazing red and pinks as well :)
This is the season that favors a classic white wedding dress and traditional black suit! If you want something softer though a white wedding dress with a light grey suit will work great together too!
Bright Winter
Striking and vivid! This palette reminds me of the northern lights. So magical! I think colorful anemones in shades of blue, purple or vibrant red would be an excellent choice as the focal flower for a bouquet for any of the Winter Seasons.
This is another palette where a white dress and black suit are going to look fantastic!
